COURSE - Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union (EFARU)

Wednesday 21 November 2018, 18:30 to 21:30

Back to Calendar

Alton RFC will be hosting an Emergency First Aid in Rugby Union (EFARU) course in November. Every squad must have a qualified first aider and it forms an important part of the overall safeguarding plan for the club.

The EFARU course will take 9 hours spread over three consecutive evenings. The course will run from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on 7th, 14th and 21st November. Attendance at all three evenings are needed to complete the course. The club will pay the course fees for all members.

What does this qualification cover?

The EFARU will provide learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to give care and manage life threatening conditions, minor injuries and illness, specifically focusing on those occurring in a rugby environment. Learners will be able to assess an incident, to recognise the signs and symptoms of injury and illness, and to assist a casualty who is suffering from injury or illness in a safe and effective manner.

The EFARU course covers conducting a Primary Survey, Basic Life Support skills and injury reporting as well other First Aid skills including:

  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation [CPR]
  • Concussion and head injuries
  • External bleeding
  • Minor injuries
  • Shock
  • Spinal injuries

The course will be led by an RFU Educator.

The club hosted a course last year and the feedback from those who attended was extremely positive.

To participate, please contact Tom Gaynor, via email HERE . There are 12 places available which will be prioritised according to squad requirements initially and then first come first served. If interest is high we will look to arrange a second course in early 2019.
