Marching in the Alton Parade, silence at Anstey Park and commemorative rugby in France.

Alton RFC members include a number of ex-servicemen and women and we are also privileged to have current members of the Armed Forces amongst our playing, coaching and supporter ranks. Over the years and as recently as this year, we have had children and families with a parent away on operations.

The Alton parade on Sunday was probably the best attended in years, no doubt due to the resonance of the 100th anniversary. The club was well represented with a group ranging from U7's through to seniors, the committee , Masters, 1st and 2nd XV marching to the memorial cairn outside the Assembly Rooms.

Representing the club to lay the wreath on behalf of every single member was one of three brothers taking part in the parade. Hudson from our U9's, was impeccably smart in his club colours and did a fantastic job. This was especially relevant to Hudson and his brothers Jagger (U9) and Baxter (U6) as they remembered their Great Grandfather who was in the Royal Navy in World War Two. Well done boys, you did the club, your family and your Great Grandfather proud.

Back at Anstey Park, all the squads gathered for a very respectful two minutes silence at eleven o'clock. And in France this weekend, our very own Sam Law was playing in a commemoration match in a special Wooden Spoon charity XV against a French charity team. Both teams had players drawn from across France, Australia, Germany, Great Britain and other countries who had fought in the Great War.

Thank you to everyone who was directly involved in the parade. Thank you to everyone who observed the silence at Anstey Park and to Sam Law for representing us on a foreign field. But our sincerest gratitude goes to those who have served and sacrificed so much and to those who continue to serve. Thank you.
