Come down and enjoy the fun

Polynesian Festival Weekend of Culture & Rugby
Over the Bank Holiday next weekend (24 & 25 May), numerous people originally from the Polynesian Islands, now living in the UK, will come together with their families for a Festival Weekend at our Clubhouse. We are looking forward to some good weather over Anstey Park while enjoying a series of fun events involving visitors, Club members and, of course, lots of kids!
Make sure that you join us for all or part of the weekend. Events run from Saturday (25th) 13.30 to Sunday (26th) early evening - & the Clubhouse Bar will be open most times (during permitted licensing hours!!). There’ll be great entertainment &, as this is an ARFC sponsored event, the Clubhouse will still be open for members (with TV rugby showing) - free as always - but it’d be very helpful to have names in advance (via secretary@altonrfc.club) so you’re on the VIP door list!!
Do, however, think about joining us for the Polynesian banquet (prepared by our very own Esther) available from 14.00 on Saturday. The cost is £12 per head for adults (free for U12s & £8 for U18s) & it will be a wonder to behold drawing on a wide range of ethnic cuisine - with menu including:

Whole Hog Roasted Pig.
Oka (raw fish in coconut cream)
New Zealand green lipped mussels
Chicken coconut curry
Sweet and sour pork
Rice / Sapa Sui (noodles) /Salad selection

+ food cooked on a Traditional Pacific Wood Fired Rock Oven:
Whole Chicken & Whole Salmon
Taro, Cassava, Sweet Potato + Pulsmi
Taro leaf parcels with lamb and coconut.

And for desserts: Pineapple Pie / Banana Cake / Coconut Buns / Brownies / Fresh Tropical Fruit.

(and, of course, there’ll be gluten free / veggie options available throughout.)

To ensure that the quantities are as epic as Esther plans, we do need to know if you are planning to partake in this feast (+ any dietary requirements) so book in with Esther (chef@altonrfc.club) or Judy (secretary@altonrfc.club) urgently.

Whether you’re eating or not, come along!! After & even during the feast, we’ll have a display of Polynesian Dancing (not just the Hula!) next to the deck. There’ll be a chance to join in and try the dancing - maybe ARFC can work out its very own equivalent of the Haka? The rest of the day would be spent socialising and enjoying a few drinks in the Clubhouse or the Park. Left over banquet food (if any!) will be available in the evening to all there.

Can’t make Saturday? Instead, from lunchtime on Sunday, why not assemble you own picnic & join us in Anstey Park for a relaxed afternoon? The Clubhouse bar will open throughout and we’re hoping that there’ll be some fun sports events going on also including Touch Rugby + Volley Ball. No need to book - just turn up & enjoy the afternoon!
