A strong performance but not strong enough

This match against London Irish Amateurs U14 A team can best be described as a game of three thirds. Irish came out of the blocks quickly and Alton found it hard to contain them, with the home side putting multiple scores on the board with no reply from Alton, with very little possession for the visitors. Alton finally got into gear and started to play their own game the way they wanted to play, getting the better of the home team in periods either side of the halftime break and crossing the whitewash three times. The final third of the game was more evenly matched but Irish made the best of their opportunities.

Whilst Alton arguably matched London Irish for physicality, our inability to match the opposition's line speed in defence and Irish's impressive off loading game took their toll in the end, with Irish running out 34-15 (6T - 3T) winners.

Overall, despite the loss, a very impressive performance from the team and, according to London Irish coaches we were the toughest opposition they have faced this season. The boys can take their learning from this match and hold their heads high in the knowledge that they made a very strong London Irish side work hard for their win.
