A great day of rugby played in a great rugby spirit from both teams

Alton were short on players for the first time this season as we had a (very successful) team at the New Milton 7s tournament and several other players unavailable due to illness or injury.

Despite this we managed to get 3 games for the price of 1 against US Portsmouth!

Due to the low numbers (we had 11 players including a couple carrying knocks) we played 2 games of 7s to start the day off. Unsurprisingly USP won both – they had a full set of backs and simply ran around our forwards in the first game. In the second the Alton boys decided to play to their strengths and go through the middle with the forwards, preventing USP from getting as much ball. A much better game with a very close result.

We finished the day with a 13 a side game; USP kindly lent us 2 of their backs – one of whom scored for us (Harry, you are welcome back any week!). This was much more to Alton’s liking and the pack scrummaged very strongly, credit to Luke Kereti who played the full game carrying a knee injury and was instrumental in the scrum dominance.

Alton’s forwards dominated in the open as well with very strong and dynamic rucking throughout the game. This play eventually led to the ball being spun down the backline for Matthew Hodges to score and Roman Gardener, also carrying a knee injury, to convert. The strong play continued and Eli Brozenich, playing his first game for Alton, was very unlucky not to be on the receiving end of a scoring pass.

A great day of rugby played in a great rugby spirit from both teams.
