New Milton 7s

Great day of 7s rugby

NEW MILTON 7’S 22/4/18

The day started with glorious sunshine and an upbeat ChAlton squad of 10 players.

Tottonians A v Chalton
First game against a team who are in the top level of the league. Chalton were slow out of the blocks and the speed Totts played was a bit overwhelming the game was a little one sided and Totts managed to run in 8 tries without reply. It wasn’t all one way and ChAlton played better in the second half. Bearing in mind some of the squad had never played 7’s rugby it wasn’t a bad start.

Portsmouth v Chalton
2nd Game against a team again higher in the league. Chalton seemed to have a better idea of what to expect and how to play .We scored first with a run from James, then they scored and this kept alternating into the second half to get to 4-4 with our tries being scored by Lewis, two by Hayden.
The end became a bit of a nailbiter until Charlie Hesk drove over after a great team move to win the game.

Chalton v Gosport
3rd game against Gosport another team at the top of the league. ChAlton were not as fazed as the first game and put up a great performance but Gosport were just too fast especially down the wings and won 5 tries to 2 with Charlie Hesk and Lewis scoring ChAlton’s tries.

Chalton v Tottonians B
Semi final of the Plate.
Chalton came out of the blocks all guns firing. Hayden scored first and Tottonians replied straight away. Then ChAlton began to dominate with some great rugby and ran in four more tries - Lewis scored two, Charlie Hesk and Hayden adding two more. A great game.

Chalton v Portsmouth
Final of the Plate.
There were some tired legs on the Chalton team with cramp becoming an issue for several players. The first half was mostly Portsmouth who ran in three tries. The second half Charlton rallied and Lewis and Harvey both ran in tries but the tiredness started to take it’s toll and Portsmouth ran in two as well.

It was a great day and a good team performance. All learnt a lot about 7’s Rugby putting them in good stead for the next two 7s tournaments. The whole team was Charlie Hesk, Lewis, Hayden, Harvey, Ollie, Marcus, Nicholas, James, Sam H and Charlie.
