Fareham Heathens v CHAlton

A blustery encounter!

A friendly against Fareham Heathens who only had 13 players. We lent them Aidan and Nicholas for the first half both of whom put in some great tackles against their own team. CHAlton put on the pressure from the kick off with some great driving from the forwards, especially George and Charlie R. We had a period of ill discipline in which CHAlton racked up the penalties. First scrum was to CHAlton's usual standard pushing Fareham Heathens off the ball, Michael passed to Lewis on to Joe, then Will and then Charlie H who scored the first try 0-5. Fareham then made good ground and had a break down the wing and seemed to have scored but the winger put a foot in touch so a line out was awarded. This seemed to galvanise CHAlton into action with George driving through well into Fareham’s half. From a breakdown Michael passed to Lewis right across the pitch, through to Hayden then Joe and Will, seeing no way through, then went back across to the other side to Marcus who ran in the second try duly converted by Lewis 0-12. Then from another strong scrum the ball was passed out again from Michael to Lewis to Hayden to Joe to Will - try scored 0-17. From the kick off Joe caught the ball and returned it all the way down the pitch and at the last moment passed to Will in support, try scored 0-22.
The coaches then decided to change players and their positions with Harvey and Joe playing for Fareham Heathens.
CHAlton kept the pressure on down to Heathens try line and Charlie R was stopped just short of the try line. CHAlton kept making ground and dominating, a great move from the scrum by Charlie H playing 8 passed to Lewis who drove over 0-36. Fareham then had an injury, so we lent them Hayden, who the proceeded to score against his own team 5-36. In the final minutes Fareham managed another score 10-36.
Playing rugby together at LWC, Charlie H, Harvey, Will and Joe linked up beautifully with the other backs. Any of them could have got Man of the match, but it was decided Charlie R deserved Coaches Man of Match having had a great game driving through the pack and diving on loose balls - a great performance. Fareham Heathens Man of Match – Lewis.
Thank you to the players that played for Fareham Heathens.
