Tottonians 2 v CHAlton
By Tracey New
A game that could of gone either way.
CHAlton kicked off and pressured Totts from the outset with penalties, line out and eventually a scrum all in Totts half. CHAlton continued on from last week and pushed Totts off their own scrum. CHAlton went through 4 phases until another scrum, which Totts managed to clear with a great kick, Sam Holland then returned the ball, was tackled and against the run of play Totts broke through and and ran almost the full length of the pitch and scored the first try, which was duly converted 7-0. The second try came from a mistake in our line out and another chase to the try line, scored and converted, 14-0. CHAlton then ramped up the pressure with a great grubber kick from Lewis, which was put in touch by Totts. From their line out a penalty was given Totts scrum, again CHAlton pushed hard and won the ball which was passed out to Ollie who went over for CHAlton's first try- 14-5.CHAlton kept the pressure on from the re-start with another turnover in the scrum. The forwards then put pressure on with some great tackling turned the ball over again and Lewis broke through the lines and scored with Hayden adding the extra points 14-12.
The second half started with a penalty from the kick off and a Totts break through the line to score – 21-12. CHAlton responded immediately by pressing Totts within 10yds of their try line, they then won a penalty which Lewis took quickly and scored before Totts could organise - 21-17. CHAlton then stepped it up pushing Totts off their own scrum again passed out to Will, who ran half the length of the pitch and scored 21-24. There was then an even period played in the centre of the pitch with alternating penalties and scrums ending with Totts breaking the line and scoring 26-24. Then Totts scored twice more 38-24. Time was ticking on but CHAlton had not given up even when Totts scored once more 43-24. They rallied with some great pressure and several phases leading to Hayden pushing over 43-31. The last few minutes and a maul from a line out passed out to Lewis try scored and converted 43-38.
Overall a great game played in the right manner. All CHAlton players were a credit, Totts gave Man of the match to Lewis, who bossed the lines and scored three tries.
Our thoughts go out to Ben Martinez, who dislocated a knee and will be out for the foreseeable future.
Portsmouth here we come!!
