Sunday saw some of the worst conditions possible to play a game of rugby in down at Trojans. Strong winds and rain , temperatures approaching zero and a pitch that made Anstey at its worst seem like the green blaze of a snooker table.
The first half saw Trojans play with the wind and rain, and having scored a break away try against the run of play, added a further converted try after good territory management by the Trojans 10. With a 14-0 lead the Alton heads could have dropped but a dogged 20 minutes saw Alton draw the score line at 14-14 at the half way point.
By this time the pitch had deteriorated into what can only be described as a mud based scating rink, and the ball now being a mud encased bar of soap. Handling became almost impossible, preventing Alton take advantage of the wind advantage. Trojans scored one more converted try from a number of consecutive fly hacks from the half way line in a play that looked more like a key stone cop scene than a rugby move due to the conditions. A final penalty by Alton saw the score end at Tojans 21-Alton 17 in conditions which proved very difficult for both sides.
The laundry will be the loosers this week with a kit bag that is currently walking around on it's own.......
