Just Great to be back Playing

Firstly, a big thankyou to Petersfield for stepping in after Tottonians had to pull out due to lack of numbers.
As the first game since lockdown and a long layoff, the structure and patterns played by Alton were just too much for a persistent Petersfield 15.
It was great to see what has been a short number of training sessions and a game plan that had only been practiced in small numbers , come to the field.
Alton dominated from minute 1 with a number of great tries scored in the spaces where tries should be scored when space is created by the pack in the inside channels. Petersfield never gave up and were rewarded with a deserved try in the last minutes of the game. A reflection of their grit and determination which I'm sure will be rewarded as they embark on the league season.
Even more satisfying was the inability to distinguish between the U17's and U18's on display, with all players blending into a pattern that should make everyone in the team pleased with the performance.
Of note were Andrew (at outside Centre) and Liam (on the wing), both displaying strong defensive qualities and positive running lines in attack along with a strong pack performance from 1-8.
Next week sees Alton step up to the first Hampshire 1 league game against Trojans at home, which will be a much stiffer test, but one the squad can relish after todays performance.
Rugby is back on, and what a joy that is.
