Calling all U13-Colts - Join us on Thursday 14th August at the launch of the new Alton RFC Academy!
Alton Rugby Club is taking a major step forward in developing its junior players with the appointment of Jake Cottrell as the club’s new Academy Lead Coach, as well as now also being linked with Bath Rugby’s NextGen Pathway.
Cottrell brings an impressive coaching background, having worked with Ealing Trailfinders, Brunel University, and Esher RFC, as well as guiding teams to the Hampshire Cup Final twice in the past three years. His expertise in the boys’ junior pathway and his experience in both development and performance rugby make him a valuable addition to the club.
The new Academy programme will support players and coaches from U13s through to Colts, with a focus on building skills, confidence, and progression into senior rugby. Training will run on Wednesdays for the Foundation Phase (U13s & U14s) and Thursdays for the Development & Performance Phase (U15s, U16s & Colts). The Thursday sessions will align with senior training to encourage mentoring and smooth transition into the adult game.
Agenda for Thursday:
• Introduce Jake Cottrell and the Alton Academy structure.
• Outline the pathway and expectations.
• Run a joint session bringing Colts and Seniors together.
• Show the wraparound support we can give to all coaches.
• Start embedding the culture and standards we want across the club.
• Pizza!
