The free hot dogs at the end of Sunday’s festival at Farnham RFC, though delicious, didn’t reflect the reward that the Alton Under 8s deserved from two frantic hours of rugby. Not only was the format different to usual, with a packed schedule, but the matches themselves were breathless and nail-biting affairs as the boys gave as good as they got.
A sense of injustice in the first game, losing by a single score to Farnham 3 after some ‘interesting’ second half officiating. Revenge was immediate and emphatic with a trouncing over Farnham 1, and the best rugby we have seen from the boys so far this season. A real end-to-end game against Basingstoke saw the teams share 24 tries, and finally honours were also shared in yet another classic versus Winchester.
Outstanding performances from everyone, we are building very nicely as a team and are seeing the efforts on the training paddock paying off when it matters. The award went to Jake Lloyd for some fantastic all-round play and a string of wonderful off-loads, he was at the heart of everything.
