Alton Under 8’s turned out for the Guildfordians festival at Stoke Park on what was a warm and overcast morning. The forecast was for heavy showers but the rain held off, most of it having probably fallen overnight prior to the festival; the pitches muddy and with standing water, even at the top of the hill!
The players were looking good during the warm up and a high scoring game in the first match saw them narrowly beaten by Chichester. Despite increasing efforts the boys also lost out to Sevenoaks and Old Reigatians before convincingly winning their final match against the hosts.
It was a tough day on some small undulating pitches that did not allow the boys to fully hit their stride, but credit to the boys for adapting and trying to work harder to secure the last win.
Special mentions to Cameron Grinstead who won Team Player of the day, and to Jack Worthington who had to adapt to using swimming skills to get out of the pond he found himself face down in at one point during a match!
Well done to all the boys and many thanks to all the parents for making the effort on Mother’s Day.
thanks
Marc
