The Under 8’s entered two teams for the Vectis festival with 19 of the squad making the trip over to the Isle of Wight. With the families travelling over at different times, and staying in various parts of the island, an enjoyable evening was had, by a significant number, on Saturday night at The Breeze restaurant watching the heavy storm roll in, accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The day of the festival was blessed by fine sunny weather, and, after moving the pitches from the area resembling a cow field at the furthest part of Seaclose Park, Alton Reds and Alton Blacks both got off to a great start, both with wins against Gosport & Fareham. This was followed by games against some strong Beckhenham sides, the opponents running out as winners. The remaining three games for each team saw two wins and one draw each, up against teams from Bracknell, London Scottish and Old Beccehamians.
This was the last tag tournament the boys will play in, moving into contact rugby next season, and everyone can be proud of their journey to date, the commitment and application shown on Sunday indicative of the effort made all season; there were certainly some tired boys out there at the end.
Many thanks to everyone for making the trip over, and for helping out on the day, ensuring an extremely enjoyable and fun day was had by all.
