Sunday 4 November saw the U9 squad split, with one group travelling to Basingstoke’s Festival. The players started well securing wins against both Alresford (5-3) and Basingstoke (7-5), before earning a hard fought draw against a second Basingstoke side. The boy’s tackling and all round game play improved throughout the morning, although a well organised Maidenhead side edged the fourth game 5-3. Despite being refuelled by some of the biggest burgers seen at a festival, the effort expended in the first four games started to show in the final game of the day as Overton ran out winners 6-4.
The Basingstoke festival was promoted as a “TREDS” festival whereby each team was scored, by the referee of each game, based on the team demonstrating the core values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. With great pride I can say, the team were successful in winning the DISCIPLINE award; a fantastic achievement.
Well done to everyone involved, parents included!
