Trojans Festival Report

After a slow start Alton U10s turned on the style on a blustery day at Trojans. It is never easy facing perhaps the strongest team in the group first up! That said against Trojans Will Pack picked up a loose ball of the back of an early ruck in the first half to open the scoring. However from the subsequent kick off Trojans were allowed to get the ball wide and with number of missed tackles scored to even things up. To be fair the next try was hard to defend with Trojans showing quick ball and direct running, and with the benefit of the hill good play was rewarded with a try. The under 10s are starting to learn that concentration is required right up until the final whistle and Trojans were able to score again out wide with a number of Alton player falling off tackles.
It is always the case that the first game blows the cobwebs out and although Trojans was a good game Alton realised that to score tries would require a team effort.
The highlight of the day was back to back matches against committed Basingstoke and Winchester teams.
The confusion against Trojans was long forgotten and what followed was 24 minutes of great running rugby punctuated with stout hard defence!! It was clear that Alton were enjoying their rugby and they won 4:1 against Basingstoke and 5:1 versus Winchester. The coaches drew compliments from both sets of coaches on the quality of the Alton off loading and passing into space. Not to mention a Trojans coach saying they were glad they played us first and not last!! A real team effort. Well done boys.
