Our U14s headed down to Millbrook RFC on Sunday 2 December for a fixture against a combined team from Millbrook and Tottonians.
Alton started strongly with the forwards punching holes in Mill-Totts defence, good hard running from the backs and solid defence across the board. The first points of the day were claimed by Matthew Smoothy, who following several phases of forwards play collected the ball from the back of a rug and powered over the white wash for a try. Greg Carter converted to make it 7-0. The Mill-Totts fought hard and Alton's points required hard work but Jonny Maddock added a second try, followed soon after by Thomas Baldwin. The try of the half was created by a quick break from Jamie Pickett, who probably could have scored himself but deftly offloaded to Josh Kent, running a good support line inside him, who then had an easy run-in to score our fourth try of the half, taking us into the break 22-0 up.
The second half was another good contest, with Mill-Totts turning the intensity up a notch and scoring the first points of the second half, with a good powerful finish to get over the line in the corner. However, tries for Finlay Hendren, Matt Salisbury and James Richardson, with a further conversion from Greg Carter, meant that when the final whistle blew, it was a well earned 39-5 victory for the Alton boys. A fantastic all round team effort, with everyone playing their part. Well done boys!
