CHAltons first league fixture of the new season saw the game starting very evenly with both sides attacking and defending without either side threatening the try lines. Near to half time, Fareham Heathens No 12 broke through two tackles and sped away, despite two of our backs giving chase - try scored and converted - 0-7. CHAlton rallied and after some excellent recycling by the forwards all the way to the opposing try line Nicholas Stephens broke through from the ruck to score - 5-7.
Second half - It was the the turn of Fareham to rally and they came back strongly to score again 5-12. CHAlton didn't give up and with the whole team pushing forward there was again a break from the bottom of the ruck by Hayden Thorn, who evened the score 12-12 (converted by Lewis New) Most of the play was now in the opposition's half and again some excellent rucking and recycling saw Lewis New go over the line, score 17-12 (converted by Lewis New). The half continued with CHAlton making significant inroads and despite some valiant defending by Fareham, Ben Martinez broke through to score CHAlton's fourth try (converted by Lewis New) giving a final score of 24-12. All CHAlton players were awarded Man of Match by the coaching team for a great team effort. Michael Stokes voted Man of the Match by Fareham Heathens.
