Hopefully everyone has recovered from what was a great weekend. Only nine players received fines
for various atrocities involving toy soldiers and sniper calls, No-one managed to get more than one
fine so there was no penalty inflicted on an outright player, although in my opinion it should have
been Harvey, as the lipstick he wore for not having his tour shirt at the Tigers match didn’t match his
outfit! An enjoyable weekend.
Now for the match!
O/L kicked off and the next ten minutes were played around the half way line. The first three
scrums Chalton dominated, and started pushing there way to O/L try line coming up just short.
O/L’s winger broke out and ran the whole length of the pitch try scored no conversion 5-0.
O/L then pushed hard from the kick off with two driving mauls and another unconverted try was
scored. 10-0. Chalton responded from the kick-off and drove down to O/L’s try line who defended
frantically turned over the ball and tried to kick clear. Harvey blocked and the ball fell to Ben who
scored the simplest try. 10-5. It was the fairly even then to half-time.
Second half remains a mystery to the players and coaches alike? Thing’s just fell apart. There was
no communication or team play. Every player was making an effort but it just wasn’t working. I can
only assume the players were getting tired and had probably indulged in a little too much
breakfast.
The game ran away from them with a final score of 44-5. Chalton left the pitch extremely
disappointed and frustrated at the second half performance. All I want to say to the players is
remember the first half and remember the second half of the Overton and Fordingbridge game, that
is how well you can play. No-one played badly, it just wasn’t a team performance. Keep your head’s
up!
