Historic moment for Alton U15s

History was made at Alton RFC today when our first ever Under 15 girls 15 a side team played. Our objective was to enjoy the game and anything else was a bonus. Firstly we played against Havant who are a more established side but our girls knew exactly how to play to win. With a dominant pack Havant tend to win at the breakdown but our girls recycled the ball so quickly and played a quick off loading game and as they do this so well they kept the pressure on. The score was 12 all at half time with tries from Emily and Hope and one converted by Emily. In the second half though Alton pulled away with two more tries from Nell and Morgan and a further conversion making the final score 24- 12 to Alton.
The try scorers were ably assisted by a whole team effort. There was some great tackling, passing and breaks by all the players and as coach I was briming with pride.
Both teams then went on to welcome players from the other clubs represented into their teams- Farnham, Winchester and Petersfield so that some players new to rugby could have their first taste of 15 aside rugby alongside some more experienced players. They all stepped up and we saw their confidence grow throughout the game. All in all a great afternoon of rugby where the core values were demonstrated.
